Gary Rowand Mero, 69, passed away on April 18, 2025, in New Port Richey, Florida. Born on April 5, 1956, in Sanford, Florida, Gary spent most of his life in the Sanford and Osteen area. Though deeply rooted in Florida, his heart found a second home in the mountains of North Carolina-a place he cherished from his very first visit.
Gary was the beloved son of Annie Lucille Berry and Eugene William Mero. He was one of five brothers and held a special place as the middle child. He shared a lifelong bond with his older brothers Charles Sheafer and Rick Sheafer and his younger brother Robert Mero. He also carried the memory of his younger brother William Mero with him throughout his life.
A devoted father and grandfather, Gary's greatest joy came from his family. He is lovingly remembered by his children: daughter Crystal Bidlack, son Gary Oluich, and daughter Jacqueline Mero. His legacy continues through many grandchildren: Brenna Bidlack (and her children Cason Bidlack and Mia Hartman), Corey Davis (and his children Roman Lang and Lillian Davis), Cameron Davis, Destiny Bidlack (and her daughter Harlow Robinson and soon-to-arrive baby boy), Miley Schroeder, Emily Schroeder, Hailey Oluich, Alex Harris, Chase Harris, Tyler Wallace, Kyle Wallace (and his daughter Faye Wallace), and Tristan Jenkins. Gary also held close the memory of his daughter Rose Wallace and grandson Braden Harris.
Gary was known for his big heart-both figuratively and literally-and for always wearing a smile that could light up any room. His round belly and bald head were as much a part of him as his quick wit and love for laughter. He had an uncanny ability to crack wise at just the right moment, a gift he proudly passed down to his children.
He found joy in life's simple pleasures: cooking hearty meals or baking treats for loved ones; spending quiet hours doing needlepoint or crochet; taking leisurely drives along scenic parkways; or simply sitting outside listening to the creek flow by. Whether watching crude British comedies or reruns of The Flintstones on repeat, Gary knew how to find humor in everyday moments.
Among those who brought him great happiness was Barbara Mero-his best friend and sister-in-law-who remained a treasured companion throughout the years. The two shared countless laughs over drinks and stories that only true friends can understand.
Gary did his best to be a good man-a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, father, and grandfather. His warmth touched many lives across generations. Though he has left this world behind, the echoes of his laughter and love will continue to resonate through all who knew him.
