LEICESTER: David P. Mero,78, of Leicester, died Monday, Aug. 18th at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester surrounded by family. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Gail (McCue) Mero, his daughter, Lisa Stewart of Spencer and his sons; David Mero, II of Leicester and Steven Mero of Cherry Valley, his brothers; Kevin Mero of Cumberland R.I.; Gary Mero and his wife Diane of Leominster, and Bryan Mero and his wife Debbie of Brimfield, his sister; Maureen Mero of Grafton, 4 grandchildren; Jana May, James Stewart, Daniel Mero and Michael Mero and his great granddaughter; Dahlia Stewart, nieces and nephews.
Dave worked for several accounting firms before going into private practice. He was born in Worcester, the son of William P. and Mary (Hurney) Mero and graduated from Leicester High School and the New England School of Accounting. He later served his country with the US Army Reserves.
Dave was very active in his community. He was an Assessor for the Town of Leicester, former Advisory Board and School Committee member, and coached Leicester Little & Senior League Baseball. He was a member of St. Joseph-St. Pius X Parish and the Cherry Valley American Legion Post 443.
Dave loved to travel, spend time with his family and friends, and was an avid Boston Sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Sunday gatherings to watch football.
Dave's funeral will be held on Friday, Aug. 22 from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1161 Main St., Leicester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph-St. Pius X Parish, 759 Main St., Leicester, 01524 or Second Chance Animal Services, P.O. Box 136, E. Brookfield, MA 01515.
