WORCESTER: Raymond E. Smith, 92, died Wednesday, January 21st at UMass Hospital Lake Ave. Campus, Worcester. He was the husband of Gail (Spongberg) Smith who died in 2020. He leaves three sons; Michael Smith and his wife Arleen of Dudley, Christopher Smith of Rochdale, Matthew Smith of Worcester, a daughter, Heather Smith of Boylston, a niece, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Janet E. Brown in 2024.Born in Worcester, he was the son of Harland & Hermina (Boudreau) Smith.
He was a graduate of Leicester High School, Class of '51. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Raymond worked as a fleet supervisor at Interstate Brands Corp. in Worcester, retiring in 2013. He enjoyed boating, fishing and was quite the handyman, building and fixing whatever he could. Ray was a lover of all types of music and his sense of humor and sarcasm will never be forgotten. He truly enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 30th at 10 A.M. in the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester. Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-6 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Veterans Inc., 6 Sheridan St., Worcester, MA 01610 or to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
