In Loving Memory of Gary James Mikkola
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary James Mikkola, who went to be with Jesus on March 25, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on June 17, 1946, in Boston Massachusetts, Gary lived as a follower of Jesus, blessing all in his life with God's love, laughter, and music.
A devoted follower of Jesus, husband, father, and grandpa, Gary was a pillar of our family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Catherine; his two children, Jeremy and Nathaniel, daughter-in-law, Audrey, his grandson, Benjamin, his sister-in-law, Peggy, his nieces, Jennifer and Amy, and his great nieces, Emily and Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arne and Anne (Anna), and his brother, George.
Gary was known for his commitment to God and The Bible, and for his love of music. After a career in teaching music and a corporate career, he continued to share his love and knowledge of music with young people through teaching. Gary was also passionate about gardening and cooking, often sharing his delicious meals made of homegrown veggies with family and friends.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on April 5, 2025, at 5:00PM, at the Depot room of Alliance Bible Fellowship at 1035 North Carolina Hwy 105 Bypass, Boone, North Carolina. Guests are welcome to dress casually and are not required to wear black. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse, an organization close to Gary's heart. www.samaritanspurse.org/memorial-page/gary-mikkola-jefferson-nc
