Gary Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dillinger Funeral Home - Newport on Mar. 30, 2026.
Gary Lynn Miller was born on February 28, 1950, and was lovingly adopted at an early age by Emmit Roland "Doc" Miller and Mattie Lou Brown Miller, who raised him with care and devotion.

Gary graduated from McCrory High School, where he formed lifelong memories and friendships.

In 1975, Gary married the love of his life, Sherry Alcorn. Together, they built a strong and loving family, sharing 50 beautiful years of marriage. Their union was blessed with four children: Quincy Miller (Stephanie), Gregory Miller, Kenyon Miller (Kristy), and Nyesha Greer (Richard). Gary's love for his wife and family was unwavering, and he cherished them deeply until his final days.

At a young age, he accepted Christ as his savior, beginning a lifelong journey of faith. He later united with Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a trusted and devoted Deacon.

Gary had a passion for praising the Lord through song. He was a proud member of the LT Spirituals, traveling and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through music. His love for worship was evident to all who knew him.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures – going out to eat, spending time with his family, and reading his Bible. Gary also enjoyed singing, bowling, playing basketball on Sunday afternoons, and in his younger years, traveling to play baseball on the weekends.

Gary was a dedicated worker and spent many years employed at Martin Metals, where he served as a crane operator until his retirement. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic.

Known for his warm spirit and sense of humor, Gary was truly a joy to be around. He was a natural jokester who brought laughter wherever he went. He embodied a gentle and patient spirit – quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. His presence was a blessing to all who knew him.

Gary was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he leaves behind a legacy filled with joy, faith, and love. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful father, ad a faithful servant of God.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Matie Lou Brown; his brothers, Curtis Wyatt and William Wyatt; and his sisters, Emmogene Moore, Catherine Thomas, and Juanita Warren.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his beloved wife, Sherry Miller; his four children, Quincy, Gregory, Kenyon, and Nyesha; his twin brother, Jerry Ratliffe, and sisters, Margaret Thomas, Gwendolyn Peel, and Martha Ann Thomas; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
