Gary Lee Ogle, 87, of Afton, Oklahoma, formerly of Nevada, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Gary was born on June 26, 1937, in Green City, Missouri, to Lester Lofton Ogle and Geraldine Louise (Bankus) Ogle.
He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, known for his quiet strength, deep integrity, and unwavering love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy Ann "Pudgie" Ogle. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to their family.
Gary is survived by his children: Julie Domer (Mike), Kirk Ogle (Francine), and Joni Ogle; six grandchildren: Brantlee Gotschall (Brooke), Shelby DeSha (Kris), Dori Mudd (Steven), Ryleigh Ogle, Andrew Ogle, and Jacob Ogle; and four cherished great-grandchildren: Tanner Gotschall, Brice Gotschall, Miley DeSha, and Summit Mudd. He is also survived by his loving companion and devoted caregiver, Debbie Vance, whose care and companionship brought great comfort and joy in his later years. Gary also held a special place in his heart for Debbie's son, Thomas Shockley (Madison), and their two children, whom he adored as family. In addition, Gary is survived by two brothers: Russell Ogle (Bonnie) and John Ogle (Linda); a former sister-in-law who remained family, Marlene Ogle; a brother-in-law, Kenny Wescoat (Velma); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who all held a special place in his heart.
Gary was a longtime member of First Christian Church and a proud member of the Elk's Lodge. His faith and community were important to him, and he formed many lifelong friendships through both. An avid water skier, Gary barefoot waterskied on his 70th birthday, a testament to his energy and zest for life. He also loved spending time at the family farm in northern Missouri, where many joyful gatherings with family and friends took place. Some of his most treasured memories were made during turkey hunts with his son, Kirk and grandson Brantlee--moments he held close to his heart. Gary loved his life at Grand Lake and cherished the numerous wonderful friends he had there. They were all special to him, and he had a nickname for most, reflecting his warmth and close connections. Gary will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, steady presence, and heartfelt devotion to those around him.
A memorial service to honor Gary's life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Missouri. A lunch reception will follow at the Elk's Lodge in Nevada, Missouri, where friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, Gary graciously asks that donations be made to the breast cancer fund of your choice in memory of Pudgie, his beloved wife.
