Gary Marshall Pierce, 63, of Locust Hill, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, surrounded by family and dear friends. Born on December 24, 1961, he was the son of the late Douglas and Vivian Pierce and was also preceded in death by his best friend, Billy “Bubba” Brooks.
Gary retired after 26 years with the Virginia Department of Transportation. A true jack of all trades and master of many, he loved fishing, cooking, the water, and the outdoors. Above all, he was most proud of being a devoted father, “Papuh G,” and “Pop Pop” to his daughter and granddaughters, who were the center of his world. To his family and friends, he was lovingly known as “Pecan.”
He is survived by his daughter, Raquel Edwards (Andy); granddaughters, Lacey Paige and Sawyer Edwards; sister, Debbie Horsley (Darryl); brother, Stephen Pierce (Dee); nieces and nephews, Jacob, Ben, Becca, and Douglas; his caregiver and friend, Mitch Johnson; his beloved pets Sonny Boy, Bill, Tilly, and Cleo; and extended family members. He will be remembered most for the endless love and support he gave his family, especially his daughter and granddaughters, and for the many close friends who were like family to him.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda. A graveside service will follow on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Middlesex Memorial Cemetery (Red Hill). All are welcome.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the amazing nurses and staff at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and Riverside Middle Peninsula Cancer Center, as well as the Riverside Hospice Team, with special appreciation to Angela “Wanda,” Cherry, Taylor, and his primary care physician, Dr. Tamara Hall, for their compassionate care and kindness.
