Gary Allen Polka, age 78 of Austin, Texas, passed away and met the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Gary was born November 25, 1945, in Houston, Texas to parents Alvin F. Polka and Lavelle (Manning) Polka who had proceeded him in death.
He served in the Army from August 1967 thru April 1969, spending his active-duty service in Vietnam. He was a lifelong electrician by trade. Gary served on the Board of Directors of the Centex IEC from September 1998 through August 2002. Two of those years, he served as the Association President. After retirement, he gave 10 years of service to the Travis County Elections Division and was honored to receive "The Guardian of Democracy Service Award". In his leisure time he enjoyed traveling the world and playing golf. Visiting the Panama Canal was one of his favorite destinations. He was a member of Santa Cruz Catholic Church, Buda, Texas. He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Shirley (Jahn) Polka, formerly of Moulton, Texas, one son, Mark Polka - Conroe, Texas and one daughter, Angela Polka - Houston, Texas, one brother, Mike Polka - Tomball, Texas, and one sister, Debbie Henson - Conroe, Texas, two grandchildren - Harrison Garza and Anthony Polka.
Services for Gary will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Moulton, Texas, on Friday, June 7, 2024. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 AM. Inurnment of the cremated remains will follow at the Resurrection Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, MEMORIAL DONATIONS MAY BE MADE IN GARY’S MEMORY TO: The American Cancer Society, Wounded Warrior Project, or a charity of the donor's choice.
