Gary Lee Powers age 62, of Markesan, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at ThedaCare in Appleton, WI.
Gary was born on July 23, 1963, in Appleton, WI, son of Don and Barbara (Senecal) Powers. Gary graduated from Markesan High School, in the class of 1981. He lived a life filled with love for his family and friends, cherishing the moments spent together.
He was known for his supportive and loving personality, always there for those who needed him. As an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching his favorite teams, including the Cubs, Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers. Gary often attended Markesan Hornets High School events and was a great supporter of his local community.
One of Gary's great passions was collecting coins, a hobby that he enjoyed thoroughly. He also loved going to auctions, where he could discover new treasures. Gary enjoyed visiting Las Vegas, where he liked to play cards. Those who knew him will remember not only his passion for sports and community but also his warm spirit and the joy he found in simple moments with loved ones and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Gary is survived by his two sisters, Susan Powers and Cindy Powers; brother-in-law, Darren (Brenda) Krueger; nieces and nephews, Eric (Mallory) Krueger, Kristina (Tyler) Denson, Ryan (Jessica) Krueger and Erin Krueger; great nieces and nephews, Sawyer, Trenton, Lori, Nolan, Haylie, Michael, Hunter, Wesley, Hudson and Finley; God daughter, Karina (Connor) Bell and his uncle, Marvin (Connie) Powers; further survived by cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lori Krueger; aunts and uncles.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Markesan Community Funeral Home 868 North Margaret Street, Markesan, WI 53946.
A celebration of Gary’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Markesan Community Funeral Home with Pastor Yoder officiating. Following the service and fellowship friends and family are invited to continue the celebration at Hornet's Nest 4 South Bridge Street, Markesan. In honor of Pow Wow, attendees are encouraged to wear casual sports attire, Cubs, Packers, Badgers or Markesan Hornet gear. Should friends desire, contributions may be made in Gary's name for a memorial to be established at a later date.
