Mary Nell Powers

Mary Nell Powers, of Seneca, South Carolina, wife of Joel A. Powers, passed away on March 10, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving and caring family.

Mary was born in the Madison Community on June 4, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Homer Purcell Sheriff and Eva Nell Baker Sheriff. She was a dedicated and committed owner and operator of a hair salon for over 30 years. Mary had a passion for caring for others and for her family. She was also a faithful and devoted member of Madison Baptist Church.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Joel A. Powers; her siblings, Jeannie Carnes and her husband Wendell, Nancy Littleton, Gwen Wilson (widow of the late Cecil Wilson), Sue Rogers and her husband Wayne, and Mike Sheriff and his wife Charlotte; a brother in-law, Carl Bryson and a sister in-law, Sue Sheriff. Although she had no children of her own, Mary was a mother and grandmother figure to numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom considered her very special.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her siblings: Woodrow Sheriff, Ralph Sheriff (and his late wife, Ruby), Horace Sheriff (and his late wife, Beatrice), Fred Sheriff (and his late wife, Ruth), Benjamin Sheriff (and his late wife, Betty), David Sheriff, Larry Sheriff (and his late wife, Judy), Shirley Fulbright (and her late husband, Jimmy), Peggy Bryson, Ruby Rogers, and Lina Ethelene Sheriff.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2026, at Sandifer Funeral Home, with entombment to follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2026, at the funeral home.
