Mr. Gary Carson Rush

Our beloved brother and uncle, Gary Carson Rush,68, transitioned home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and passed away under the loving and compassionate care of Hospice Home of High Point. Gary was the eighth child of ten children born to the late Frank and Mary Alice Rush. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Greene, two sisters, Geneva Davis and Nancy Rush, and one nephew, Brandon Rush.
Gary was born at High Point Memorial Hospital on September 16, 1956. He was reared in Glenola, NC, and attended Randolph County Public Schools: Trindale Elementary, Trinity Jr. High, and Trinity High School. During his early adult years, Gary, who held a Brown Belt, was a martial arts instructor and also worked as a Bartender in his spare time. He had a flair for stylish clothes and nice cars.
Gary had a long and progressive career of over 40 years in the High Point Furniture Industry. From 1979 to 1985, he was employed at Interline Furniture Company in High Point, North Carolina, where he assisted the company's purchasing agent in procuring materials for the plant. From 1986 to 1988, he was employed by The Harold Zimmerman Collection as an assistant to the Plant Manager, where he was responsible for all shipping, receiving, packing, and assembly at the facility. For the past 30-plus years, Gary was employed by South Sea Rattan Furniture Company in Greensboro, NC, as Plant Supervisor, until his health declined.
Gary's coworkers and employees remember him as a quiet, even-tempered, but very strong manager with a no-nonsense management style. He was respected by his employees, colleagues, and management. He was always willing to help others succeed, and they had a special appreciation for him. Gary cherished those on his job. It was on his job at Interline that Gary met his best friend of over 30 years; Henry Wilson, a lifelong friend, along with his wife Sheila, who showed dedication to Gary until his passing.
Gary's family will remember him for our weekend visits sitting around the TV watching movies and having random conversations, holidays spent with him at his Greensboro home, the '89 Corvette that he brought back to life and started driving again at almost 70, his love of Deviled eggs, Mountain Dew and Sweet Tea fashioned after Mama's / Maw Maw's (very sweet!) and as a die-hard North Carolina Tarheels fan. We will also remember him for his willingness to help us with WHATEVER we needed, big or small, and his perpetual sense of humor -- which he maintained and shared even in his last days. Most importantly, we will remember the fight he gave and the strength he showed to the very end: not for himself but for us to try to stay a little longer. He said it best himself "It will all be alright afterwhile".
Gary leaves behind to cherish his memory six siblings: Doreen Miles, Maxine McCormick, Angela Tucker, Odell (Melinda) Rush, Lorriane (Myles) Moore, and Gina Rush; best friend, Henry (Sheila) Wilson; special cousins, Rev. Roger, Rev. Curt and Ken Green (e) and a host of nieces and nephews.
In a last display of love and in keeping with his selfless heart, Gary left the family a message of comfort and assurance through his youngest sister, Gina: He said he knows we love him, and he loves us back.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, 3229 Old Glenola Road. Entombment will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mr. Rush may be viewed on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Phillips Funeral Service from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
