Gary C. Schocke, age 82, a lifelong Romeo area resident, passed away on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Gary was born June 27, 1943 in Mt Clemens, the son of James and Jean (Walker) Schocke. He married Marjorie Payne on June 19, 1965 at St Clement Catholic Church in Romeo. After graduating from Romeo High School, Gary briefly attended St. Clair Community College, then worked with his father Jim selling used cars in Romeo. In 1980, Gary decided to get into politics and ran for Bruce Township Supervisor, a position he held from 1980 -2008. He was well known for “No new Taxes” and “Keep it rural”. Also in 1980, Gary joined the Romeo Lions Club where he is a life member. He was the president of the Romeo Peach Festival for over 20 years. On Friday nights he could be seen playing softball with his “Older Friends” till he was in his 40’s. He enjoyed watching Romeo Bulldogs football, the Detroit Lions, and Notre Dame football. Camping with his family, watching NASCAR and family vacations were always fun for Gary.
Gary is survived by his wife Marge, children: Jeff (Karen) of Bruce Twp., Michele (Larry) Novak of Oxford, and Greg (Kolleen) of Royal Oak. Grandchildren include Nick, Maddie, Danny, Patrick, Jessica, Dominic, and Natalie. Also survived by sister in law Lisa Schocke of Romeo. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Ron.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 11 AM with Father Mike G. officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 1 to 8.
