Gary graduated Sparta High School in 1978 and was a lifelong resident of Sparta, MO. Gary enjoyed antiques, old cars, playing cards, and riding his 4-wheeler. He loved spending time with his daughters, arrowhead hunting, and going to the racetrack with his brother Dennis. Gary had a passion for space and all of the things we will never understand about the universe.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, his sister Sandy Weter, and brother Bill Shortt.
Gary is survived by his two daughters, Casey Burkett and husband Justin, Jessie Batterson and wife Taylor, and their mother Lisa; His brother Dennis Shortt and wife Susan; Brother in law Bob Weter; five grandchildren, Sam, Gabriel, Alexander, Atticus, and Solomon; Nieces Kim and Jennifer, nephew Daniel; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.
A memorial visitiation will be held 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2025 at Holden Cremation and Funeral Service, Sparta, Missouri. Cremation will be handled in the care of Holden Cremation and Funeral Service with private inurnment by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Bluefield Project in Gary's memory.
