With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Gary "Richie" Smink Jr., who left us too soon on October 11, 2024, in Lorain, Ohio.
Richie was born on December 1, 1966, to Gary Sr. and Linda (nee Cornell) Smink. After graduating from Elyria High School in 1985, Gary dedicated himself to serving his country as a Cavalry Scout in the Army. In this vital role, he embraced the responsibilities of reconnaissance and intelligence gathering, always demonstrating his commitment and honor. His military service was a source of pride for him, reflecting his deep love for his country and his desire to contribute to its defense. He worked until his body ultimately succumbed to the cancer. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, watching over his loved ones from above.
He was the beloved husband to the late Missy Smink (2017) and a proud father to Joseph Smink, Mary (Latrell) Smink Worthy, and his bonus children Tom, Emily and Allisyn-cherished papa of seven grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and grand pups. With a special friend Tami, the last year of his life.
Richie was known for his contagious laugh and smile with a joyful spirit that will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan, he enjoyed music, camping, playing video games, bowling, and most importantly making memories with his children and family who brought immense joy to his life. His quick wit and sense of humor always brought light to even the darkest of days.
In Gary's words "life's good "... "whatever "
