Gary Smith Obituary
Gary Gene Smith, born on September 9, 1947, age 76 years and 9 months, of Dycess, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, in Destin, Florida. Gary was born in Dycess, Arkansas, and spent his life dedicated to his family, country, and passions.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Lawrence Jay Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Nora Walsh, and his cherished children, Kim Smith, Matthew Smith and his wife, Rachel, and Brian Smith and his wife, Genelle. He also leaves behind four adored grandchildren, Olivia, Brody, Samuel, and Maverick Smith; and sisters, Joyce and Stephanie; and brother, Harvey.
A proud military veteran, Gary served 20 years in the U.S. Army, including service in the Panama conflict. His dedication and bravery in the military were matched only by his love for the game of golf. An avid golfer, Gary played on the PGA amateur tour and spent countless hours on the green. Gary's love for the outdoors extended to fishing, a pastime he enjoyed immensely. He was also a great fan of classic movies, especially those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, as well as the iconic film "Die Hard." Above all, Gary cherished spending time with his grandchildren, affectionately calling them "lil critter" in his endearing Southern accent, which never failed to bring smiles to their faces. The family encourages friends and loved ones to join them in remembering and celebrating Gary's remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in honor of Gary's memory.
Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and joy will forever be remembered. We love you Dad you'll forever be in our hearts. May your memory be a blessing.
