Gary Snyder

Gary Robert Snyder, 68, Auburn, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Gary was born August 24, 1957, in Topeka, the son of Robert and Leona Koci Snyder. Gary graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1975 and continued his education at Kaw Area Technical College, earning a certification in horticulture. He went on to have a long and dedicated career with Topeka Public Schools, retiring in 2011 after 31 years of service.
A lifelong resident of Auburn, Kansas, Gary truly loved his community. He volunteered for many years at the community haunted house, the Auburn Fair, and the parade, always happy to lend a hand. He enjoyed sharing laughs with the "wind tunnel" morning coffee club at the Auburn Community Center. Gary and his wife, Pam, opened their home as foster parents, giving a safe and loving place to many children over the years. His greatest joy was being "Grandpa Gary," and he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren.
Gary loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Countless days were spent down by the Wakarusa, casting a line and soaking up the peace of nature. Known for his easy humor and outgoing nature, he never met a stranger. For decades, he hosted an all-night poker game in his garage, welcoming family and friends from all over. In his younger years, he proudly earned the nickname "Piddler," because he found happiness in simply tinkering and "piddling around."
On April 8, 1978, Gary married the love of his life, Pamala K. Stratton. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2018. He is survived by their children, Dustin Robert Snyder, Misty Kay Winkler, and Wendy Marie Gibbens (Jordan). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren; brother, Doug Snyder (Jackie); sister-in-law, Ramona Snyder; brother-in-law, Don Stratton (Lisa); along with many nieces and nephews.
Gary was also preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eugene and Leona Ella Snyder; parents-in-law, Jack and Kay Stratton; brother, Bruce Snyder; brother-in-law, Kelly Stratton; niece, Tyla Snyder; and great-nephew, Logan "Logi bear" Snyder.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at The Woods at Wanamaker, 3501 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66614. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery.
