Gary Springer, 80, Carpio, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024 in a Minot assisted living facility.
Gary Chris Springer was born on March 16, 1944, a son of Chris and Leatha (Larson) Springer in Florence, SD. He was raised and educated in Florence, graduating from high school in 1962.
On November 6, 1963, Gary enlisted into the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country, receiving the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship ribbon and the National Defense Service medal. Gary was honorably discharged on March 10, 1967.
On October 3, 1970, Gary was united in marriage to Shirley Louise Ondricek in South Shore, SD. They made their home in various locations as Gary worked in the Grain Elevator Business including Florence, SD, Oldham, SD, Gettysburg, SD, and in 1977, moving to Carpio, ND, where he managed the elevator and they raised their two sons Daniel and Josh. He retired from the elevator in 2005. Shirley passed away on September 29, 2021.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors, pheasant hunting, deer hunting and tinkering in his garage.
Gary was a member of the Carpio Lutheran Church, and a 45-year member of the Donnybrook American Legion Clarence McCormack #195.
He is survived by: sons, Daniel (Stephanie Wilz) Springer and Josh (Penny) Springer; sisters, Karen Mischke and Betty (Roland) Helmreich; brother-in-law, Quentin (Kathy) Ondricek; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; and brother Robert.
Visitation: Monday, October 7, 2024 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio, ND.
Funeral Service: Monday, October 7, 2024 at 10:30 am at Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio, ND. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Carpio Lutheran Church Facebook page.
Burial: Carpio Lutheran Cemetery, Carpio, ND, next to his wife Shirley.
