Gary Howard Stanley "Stan" was born on November 10, 1937 to Wayne and Margaret Dedmore in Council Bluffs, IA. From there the family made their home in several cities: Centrailia, WA, Tillamook, OR, Albany, OR, where his sister Linda, was born in 1950, then on to Tacoma, WA where Gary attended high school and enlisted in the Air Force in 1954. He was stationed in Japan during part of his enlistment. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there. After Gary was discharged in 1958 he moved to Albany, where is mother and sister resides. He eventually obtained employment at OSU, working on computers, when they were nothing like today. He met and married Patricia in 1963, while working at the college. The same year the couple moved to Milwaukie, where Gary resided until the day of his passing, and his only daughter, Cheryl, was born in August 1963. The couple bought a home in Arden Park, where he lived until the mid 80's. During these days Gary worked in sales, mainly life insurance. He also worked in advertising well into his 70's.
Gary always loved nice vehicles, good music, from several different genres, socializing and GOLF. His love for golf surpassed all. Gary golfed with his best buddies right up until he was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2022. The hardest thing he ever did was hang up his clubs.
Many will remember Gary's high intellect and unsurpassed humor. He will be missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Stanley; grandson, Caleb; and sister, Linda Grimes.
A Cemetery Service with Military Honors will be 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97086.
