Gary Thomas, lovingly known as "Paps," passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2025, surrounded by family by his side. Born on April 2, 1944, Gary lived a life defined by kindness, loyalty, and a gentle heart that touched everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Earl Thomas; his siblings Emma Kaye Bridgman, Patsy Waters, and J.E. Thomas; his beloved wife, Ruby Thomas; and his daughter, Kaye Thomas.
Gary is survived by his sister, Teresa Lowe; his grandchildren Amanda Thomas, Emily McDonald, and Gary Lynn; his great-grandchildren Jaylen Thomas, Journie Thomas, and Laila Overton; and his grandson-in-law, Alfred Townes. He also leaves behind one especially cherished granddaughter, Katlyn Nelson. The family also wishes to acknowledge two special friends, Elizabeth Overton and Talisha Beard, who were like family.
Paps lived a life full of simple joys. He loved cooking, playing poker, working on cars, and spending peaceful days fishing. He had a fondness for oatmeal, cake, sweet tea, and ice cream-treats that always brought a smile to his face. A true gentleman and a sweetheart to the core, Gary carried himself with quiet strength, warmth, and unwavering love for his family.
He retired from Fulmarque where he dedicated many years of hard work and built lasting friendships.
Gary "Paps" Thomas will be deeply missed, but the love, wisdom, and memories he shared will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
