Joan McDonald Hall, age 86, died in Summerfield, Florida, on February 12, 2026, after a brief illness.
Joan was born on November 23, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Raymond Edward McDonald and Catherine Monica Keegan McDonald. She lived in Sioux City during her childhood, then attended the University of South Dakota, where she met her husband, Lynn Bullock Hall. They were married on January 28, 1961, and they graduated in 1962. Together they traveled life’s journey for 65 years and lived in many states as Lynn followed his career of 44 years as a pilot – first in the U.S. Marine Corps and then with Northwest Airlines. After retirement, they had three “last” homes – in Pensacola, Florida, Cleveland, Tennessee, and The Villages, Florida. Joan was able to do the loves of her life – raising their two sons, enjoying their families, and teaching grades 3 through 8 – for many of those years. She was so grateful for being born in our wonderful country and being able to take advantage of its opportunities and freedoms. She was thankful for the life-long friends she made throughout her journey – those who shared her faith, those who shared their faith with her, and those who were just good people with no apparent faith. She was also grateful for being able to spend her last years in The Villages, a community of people who continually sought ways to use their time and talents to help those in need.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband Lynn Bullock Hall, son Todd Ivan Hall (Sheri Sorenson) and their two daughters - Elise Judith Hall (Jacob Eliason) and Tiffany Lynn Hall, and son Kreg Allan Hall (Julie DeBruin) and their twin daughters, Madalyn Elizabeth Hall and Olivia Michele Hall, and their son, Gage Allan Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Bonita Jean (Luverne Hulce,) and three brothers, Richard Earl (Dorothy Ione Jimison Thompson,) Thomas Joseph (Shirley Ann Kamp,) and Donald Francis McDonald (Mary Ellen Bibow,) all of whom are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.
Joan will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s honor to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 5323 E CR 462, Wildwood, FL 34785 or to a food pantry of your choice.
