Gary Throckmorton ObituaryGary Throckmorton, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away on April 25, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. Gary was 74.
The son of James B. Throckmorton and Amelia Juska Throckmorton, Gary was born on December 31, 1950. He grew up in the Elberon section of Long Branch, NJ with his four brothers, Jimmy, Preston, Eugene, and Kenny. Gary attended both grade school and high school in Long Branch. At the age of 18, in 1968, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. Unfortunately, Gary's service time was cut short due to disability, but he always valued the time he was able to serve his country. Gary was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2140, Brighton Memorial Post, in Long Branch, NJ.
Gary rejoiced in his career as a sheet-metal worker and excelled in this profession for 40 years. As a father, Gary showed how selfless love can be. He was a man who knew no limits when it came to supporting his children and grandchildren.
Gary was predeceased by his mother, father, and all four of his brothers. Gary is survived by his former wife, Linda Vitale, his partner, Wendy Peterson, their daughter Lauren Landau, his son Gary Throckmorton Jr. and wife Lisa, his daughter Michelle Specia and husband Steve, and his four grandchildren, Emma, Lucas, Cooper, and Madison.
Gary will be remembered for his quick grin, his laugh, his sense of humor, and the love that he had for his family and friends.
To celebrate the life Gary lived and the legacy he left, a Celebration of Life will be held on May 9, 2025, from 3:00 PM–6:00 PM, at the Long Branch Elks Club, located at 150 Garfield Avenue in Long Branch.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Oakhurst/Long Branch Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the Long Branch Elks Club, or your choice of an organization supporting Veterans, in memory of Gary. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
