Wilson "Bill" Lee Throckmorton passed on March 17, 2025 after a brave 3-year battle with prostate cancer. He was born on February 14, 1942.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, and high school sweetheart, "Memaw" Carol Throckmorton and his brother, Robert "Bob" Throckmorton. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Louise Throckmorton.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; his children, Laura Gauntt (Charles) of Richmond and Gary Throckmorton (Caroll) of White Stone; his grandchildren, Katrina and Garrett Gauntt of Richmond and Wilson and Parker Throckmorton of White Stone; as well as Pat's children, Pamela Wray and Bert Short (Melissa); her grandchildren, Lauren Meyer (Austin), Caroline Gilmore (Trip), Reynolds Short, and Cathryn Short; her great-granddaughter, Scarlett Meyer; and his sister-in-law, Donna Throckmorton; his niece, Melissa Taylor (Jason); his nephew, Travis Throckmorton and his great-niece, Ava Throckmorton, all of Richmond.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Hermitage High School and graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1964. He worked for Newport News Shipbuilding, City of Portsmouth, Honeywell Computers, and Southeast Data Processing in Richmond, Tulsa, OK and Miami, FL. In 1976, he worked for General Medical as Vice President of Information Systems in Richmond. In 1987, Bill with his partner Fred Luxton bought the pharmaceutical computing company, Compute-Rx, eventually changing the name to CRX systems. He partnered with Fred until 1997 when they sold the company and retired.
Bill enjoyed his retirement in Wicomico Church in the Northern Neck, where he cherished the view from his home overlooking Mill Creek and the Chesapeake Bay until his last days. Bill was very involved in the Northern Neck community. He was the Past Commodore of Indian Creek Yacht Club and the Virginia Yacht Club. He enjoyed sport fishing and traveling with friends on his boat. Bill was also a trustee at Wicomico Parish Church for the endowment funds and a great cook for Men's Breakfast. We would like to thank Dr. Joseph Bessler of Kilmarnock, Dr. Rachna Raman at St. Mary's in Richmond, the Hospice of Virginia team, and nurses Gwen, Jamie, and Joann for the wonderful care and compassion he received.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 from 6 to 8pm at Currie Funeral Home, 116 E. Church Street, Kilmarnock, VA. Funeral service and burial will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 11 am at Wicomico Parish Church, 5191 Jessie Ball Dupont Hwy (Route 200), Wicomico Church, VA.
