Gary Twait, all around great guy, passed away suddenly at his home on August 28, 2025. He was 74 years old. Gary was born on November 10, 1951, at St. Charles Hospital in Aurora, Illinois, to Ronald and Dorothy Twait. On July 10, 1970 Gary married Margaret "Pegi" Johnston and remained a devoted and truly incredible husband for over 55 years. In 1970, Gary was drafted into the U.S. Army and served proudly as a Military Police officer in Germany for two years before returning home to Aurora in 1973. There he built a family that grew into what has become a loving community and neighborhood of its own. A place family and friends could find him when they needed him, which was always. For nearly 50 years, Gary's garage was a hub of warmth, laughter, and connection for friends, neighbors, and family alike. To sit with Gary there was to feel welcome and at ease, whether you were a child or an adult. But as he often reminded, "No adults who act like children." Gary, a proud member of UAW Local #145, worked at Caterpillar for over 30 years before retiring. A true outdoorsman, he was a long-standing member of the Aurora Hunting and Fishing Club. He is survived by his one true love, Pegi Twait; his sons, Eric (Kathy) Twait and Gregory (Jennifer) Jericho; his grandchildren, Brian (Ashlyn) Twait, Lilly Bea Anne Twait (Milo Atwood), and Jennifer Galloway; and his great-grandchildren, Beck, Amelia, and Finley. He is also survived by his sisters, Theresa Vuoculo, Diana Gray, and Rhonda Roe, as well as many loving nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. There will be few who knew him who will not feel an incredible sense of loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Dorothy Twait; his brother, Rich Twait; and his granddaughter, Rebecca Hollenbeck. Memorial visitation will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, where friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate his life. at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois 60506, 630-631-5500 Memorials may be directed to his wife, Pegi Twait, in honor of Gary's memory. Dear Pegi, I am so sorry to hear about Gary. Just recently when I was together with some of my family members, the Johnson family came up as we were reminiscing about the ol´ neighborhood (as your family members always do and always in very positive ways). My brother John was saying what a great guy Gary was and how helpful he was to your mom and dad as they were aging in your family home. I am sure he was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

I met Gary (the rock and roll guitarist) about 20 years back, thanks to Eric Twait buying a guitar at my shop. I´ve always enjoyed his visits and our conversations about our musical roots in 60s, hot rods and family. I´ll miss him deeply. My sincere sympathy to all who loved him and to those he loved.
