Honoring the Life of Gary Lloyd Waddell
Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Man of Faith
Born in Lexington, Kentucky, May 4, 1950 – March 6, 2025
Gary Waddell, a Jesus follower, a cherished husband, loving father and grandfather, devoted son and brother, and esteemed leader in the commercial real estate sector, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at the age of 74. Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, Gary carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life, especially in his unwavering passion for Kentucky basketball.
A talented athlete, he earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Florida, where he honed the discipline, humility, and leadership that would guide him throughout his life. After college, he moved to Atlanta where he forged a successful career in commercial real estate. Gary leased the Palisades and The Concourse, as well as One Atlantic Center before joining Cushman & Wakefield representing tenants.
Gary exuded joy. His smile was ever-present, his optimism unshakeable, and his presence brought calm and light to all who knew him. Whether mentoring a colleague, cheering on the Wildcats, or spending quiet moments with family, Gary lived fully and faithfully.
He was the devoted husband of Nancy Waddell, the loving father of Lauren and her husband Greg, and the proud grandfather of Karolina and Avery, who brought endless joy to his days. He was the beloved son of his mother Opal Hall and of his late father, Lloyd William Waddell of Lexington, Kentucky whose influence and love helped shape Gary into the man he became. Gary shared a deep bond with his brother Randy and his sister-in-law Joan from Louisville, Kentucky. He was also a proud uncle to his niece and nephew, Rachael and Emery, always steady and supportive.
Gary's life was a living testament to his faith, humility, and love. His legacy lives on in the hearts he touched, the values he lived by, and the joyful spirit he brought into every room.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on April 26th at 2:00pm at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will gather to honor the incredible man he was, and Kentucky blue attire is welcome at this casual outing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gary's memory to First Baptist Atlanta, continuing the spirit of generosity and grace he shared with the world.

Nancy,
God bless you, Lauren, and the rest of your family.
I liked Gary very much as I am sure everybody that knew him also did.
We gad many short, but very pleasant conversations, usually when we both took out the garbage and stayed a few minutes talking about sports, the neighborhood and some politics (we thought very much alike).
He will be missed.

Gary was so kind to everyone in Bellewood. One of last conversations we realized that Tandy worked with my husband. To the family remember all the good memories. May his memory be forever eternal.
