AUSTINTOWN - Gary F. Walker, 84, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, Jan. 3, 2026, at The Inn at Glenellen.

Gary was born July 11, 1941, in Christiansburg, Virginia, a son of the late Charles and Pearl Huffman Walker. He was raised in West Virginia and was a 1959 graduate of East Bank High School. In 1965, Gary moved to the Youngstown area with his young family and proudly made the Mahoning Valley his home for the remainder of his life.

He worked as a pipefitter throughout his career, employed by several area companies including Aerotech, Prout and Johnson Controls, before retiring in 2003.

Gary was a proud member of Pipefitters Union Local 396 for 63 years and was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. A man of many interests and talents, Gary enjoyed fishing, cooking and riding his bike. He was very creative and found great joy in painting and crafting belt buckles and bracelets. Above all else, Gary treasured time spent with his family.

He leaves to forever cherish his memory his wife of 65 years, Sue Jarrell Walker, whom he married Oct. 1, 1960; a daughter, Colleen (Gary) Grope of Boardman; a son, Gary “Steve” Walker (Karen) of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandsons, Jarrett (Allison) Grope, Brandon Grope, Christopher Grope and Matthew (Ashley) Grope; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Grope, CeCe Grope, Harper Grope and Matthew Grope Jr.; a brother, Charles Walker of Baton Rouge, La.; and many extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Michael Walker and Larry Walker.

Family and friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.
