Gary Lee Washburn, 83, of Chatsworth, California, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025. He was in home hospice care, and his three children were with him when he passed away.

Gary was born on January 14, 1942, in Huntington Park, California, to William (Billy) and Mary (Virginia) Washburn. He graduated from Fresno State University and then graduate school at Boston University. He served honorably as an officer in the United States Army, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant.

He was best known for his love for his wife, Judy Brantley Washburn. A gifted storyteller, he would often engage people he knew, as well as those he didn't. Gary never met a stranger. His favorite story to tell was how he met his wife, Judy, while stationed in Atlanta. He was actively involved in politics, served as an Emergency Medical Services Commissioner for Los Angeles County, real estate sales, his church, the community, and volunteered as a California Highway Patrol Senior Volunteer. To know Gary was to love him.

He is survived by his brother, Bill, and his three children, Bob, Sue, and Kim, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Judy. Also to precede him were his parents and two of his brothers, Bob and Jim.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Rehoboth Baptist Church cemetery in Kite, Georgia. There will be a memorial service in the Los Angeles area at a future date to be determined.
