On the afternoon of Friday, August 29th, 2025, Gary W. Wong joined his parents and beloved wife in heaven.

Born on December 19th, 1952, Gary Wayne Wong, son of Wayne and Maxine Wong, lived a respectable life. As the proud older brother of Cherie Franks and younger brother of Gale Reed, Gary developed a strong and loving heart devoted to protecting those around him and serving his lord and savior. Gary married his wife, Jessi Wong, August 16, 1974, beginning a new chapter in his life's story. The two welcomed three children into their family – Gary J. Wong, Aaron Wong, and Laura Wolf – and held each other in accordance to the vows that they swore by for 51 devout years. Gary worked as a devoted state trooper for the State of Texas in Baytown and New Braunfels for over 30 years. Gary first joined the DPS academy in 1976 and became one of the first Asian-American State Troopers to receive a badge from his precinct upon graduating in 1977. After spending years working in law enforcement, Gary chose to retire his gun and badge to focus on what mattered most to him in his life, his wife and his family. For years, through immense sickness and times of hopelessness, Gary happily cared for his wife until her final days, always being the strong and loving presence at her side. Gary was also the proud grandfather to seven granddaughters; Ema Jessi Wong, Leona Wong, Sophia Wolf, Francesca Bella Wong, Elyana Wolf, Keely Wong, and Giana Wolf. Gary supported these girls in all that they did and always made sure to be present in their lives to support their bright and successful futures. The love Gary showed to the members of his family from his youth until his departure encompassed every second of his life, surpassing the barriers of distance and ill health.

Gary is survived by his sister Cherie Franks, three children, granddaughters, and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Gary was a strong father and wise grandfather who will now rest happily alongside his beloved wife, sister, ancestors, and God in heaven.

A memorial service will be held on September 25 at 2:00 PM at Oakwood Church, 2154 Loop 337 New Braunfels, TX 78130.
