Gayland Verne Williams, 82, of Hutchinson, died April 21, 2025, at his home. He was born June 13, 1942, in Hutchinson, to Cecil D. and Lora R. (Howell) Williams.
Gayland attended Hutchinson public schools K-11 and graduated from high school in Hotchkiss, CO, in 1960. He served in the United States Navy from 1960-1964. Gayland worked as a field engineer for NCR for 24 ½ years and then was the head of the IT department at Hutchinson USD 308 for 10 years before he retired. Gayland enjoyed woodworking, fixing things, and working on vehicles. He was of the Seventh-Day Adventist faith.
On January 1, 1986, Gayland married Karen L. Vokach, in Hutchinson. She survives.
Also surviving are: his children, Keith Williams (Jan) of Wichita, Carmela Williams of Frisco, TX, Ivan Williams (Felany) of San Jose, CA; stepdaughter, Deb Chronister (Steve) of Nickerson; grandchildren, Alex Williams, Mitchell Williams, Cameron Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Jaye Johnson, Dylan Williams, Dexter Williams, Kayla Daily (Jake), Steven Chronister II; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ian, Dawson, Ross; and many extended family members.
Gayland was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Angela Johnson; brother, Duane Williams; and sister, Janet Lofland.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd., Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by United States Navy Honor Guard.
Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at Elliott Mortuary until the service date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dillon Nature Center, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
