Gene A. Burd, 75, of Derry, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

Born March 15, 1950, in Latrobe, he was the son of the late Harmon E. "Ham" Burd and Mildred M. (Wineland) Burd.

Prior to his retirement, Gene had been the Information Technology Director for Indiana Regional Medical Center and had been previously employed by UPMC. In his retirement, he spent several years supporting the families of our community by assisting at the Lopatich-Brinker Funeral Home, LLC. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the American Legion Post No. 982, where he loved attending Thursday Trivia with his team "Just Us." He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was golfing, cutting his grass, or washing his cars. His most cherished times though were spent with his family, especially supporting and attending his grandchildren's events.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Cecelia DeValerio, and a brother-in-law, Greg DeValerio.

Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa E. (DeValerio) Burd, of Derry; one son, Aaron G. Burd, and his wife, Angela, of Latrobe; one daughter, Becky Crimboli, and her husband, Frank, of Latrobe; two grandchildren, Gabi Burd and Joey Crimboli; one sister, Darla N. Irvin, and her husband, David, of Derry; and his father-in-law, George DeValerio, who loved him like a son and always said "If Gene can't fix it, nobody can!" He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his golfing buddy, Skip.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Friday at the Lopatich-Brinker Funeral Home, LLC, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. A service will be conducted at 7 PM Friday in the funeral home by the Chaplain and members of American Legion Post No. 982. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Family House, 5308 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224, or online at www.familyhouse.org by selecting "donations" and "area of greatest need."
