Our beloved Gene Boiser Layosa, 87, of South Jordan, Utah, passed away on October 7, 2025 in Murray, Utah. Gene was born on July 29, 1938 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii to Jesus Blancaflor Layosa and Katherine Boiser.
Gene is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Jean Kamaile Ka'iwi Layosa, his brother, Patrick Allan, and his granddaughter, Alexis Kamaile. Gene is survived by his current wife, Janet Blackburn Layosa, his brother, Michael Vincent Layosa, children from his first marriage, Edward Kaiwi, Shawn Keli'ikoa, Chuck Daniel Kaina, Dave Anthony Kunane, children from his current marriage, Mary Alyssa, Tehani Belle, Robert DeMille Kai; and grandchildren, Lisa, Brandon, Sheri, Jamie, Naomi, Marcus, Nani, Julia, Nalani, Kaleo, Makana, Kamaile, Nora, Koa and Oliver (and two more grandchildren to be born October 2025). He is also survived by many wonderful great-grandchildren.
Gene proudly served in the Army and Army reserves during the Vietnam War as an instructor at the Schofield Jungle Warfare Training Center on Oahu.
Gene converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his early 30s and became a dedicated member. He served faithfully throughout his life in many church callings. He had a strong testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ and loved sharing it and serving others throughout his life.
Gene was hard-working and dedicated. He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Gene had a mantra that he loved sharing: "The plan of mortality, salvation and exaltation is flawless. Opinions that challenge its validity are irrelevant. The game is and will always be salvation versus destruction. Destruction can never and will never bring happiness. There are only two things in life – the Gospel of Jesus Christ or nothing! I know and believe that the prophet Joseph Smith was chosen by God to restore the Gospel here on earth, that the Book of Mormon is a record of God's people in the western hemisphere, the Bible a record of God's people in the eastern hemisphere. There are no coincidences in the scriptures – just blunt facts. Those that fear facts are afraid of truth and deny themselves those great things the Lord has promised within sacred writings – of this I testify, in the name of Jesus Christ – Amen."
A viewing for Gene will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 am. on October 14, 2025. A funeral service will be held directly after at 12:00 pm.
Services will be held at the Country Park Third Ward Chapel, 1988 West 11400 South, South Jordan, Utah 84095.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial, 1711 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah 84065.

Dear Janet and family..........We have had you in our prayers ever since we knew Gene was in the hospital, and were expecting a different outcome His pain and suffering are over and it must be a comfort to know that he is rejoicing with loved ones as he "returned with honor".
His rock solid testimony and commitment to his Savior is the anchor which will keep him progressing on the covenant path until you are all reunited..........What a glorius reality........as difficult as it will be in the days to come. We know that there will be "angels round about to bear you up and you will be in our thoughts and prayers......Blessing to you all
