In Loving Memory of Shirley Mae Bernard Robinson

January 31, 1930 – October 6, 2025

After 95 faithful and love-filled years, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, neighbor, and friend, Shirley Mae Bernard Robinson, returned to her Heavenly Home.

Born on January 31, 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Eva Bowen and Rocco Bernard, Shirley was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—a faith that became the guiding light of her life.

After graduating from Eastern High School for Girls, she moved to Salt Lake City and lived in the Beehive House (in the triangle window room), a “Home for Girls Away from Home.” She worked for the Presiding Bishopric office and personally knew many General Authorities, a cherished experience that deepened her spiritual foundation.

Her family later settled in Rose Park, Utah, where Shirley met Lorin “Jack” Robinson, who had recently returned from his mission to Tahiti. Their courtship blossomed through letters while Jack served in the Korean War. On December 7, 1953, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple by Jack’s cousin, Elder Matthew Cowley. They often joked that their wedding date—Pearl Harbor Day—marked the beginning of “World War III.”

Together, Jack and Shirley built a life in Salt Lake City, Bountiful, and eventually Murray, Utah, where she lived for 62 years. They adored their neighbors and believed Murray was the best place on earth to raise a family.

They were blessed with six children:

• Gary (Marie) Robinson

• Danny Robinson

• Wendy (Kurt) Rosenhan

• Tanya (Steve) Howell

• Darrell (Lisa) Robinson

• Teresa (Norm) Anderson

Their posterity flourished to include 21 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. We miss our brother Danny who is deceased. Grams has joined with Danny and Dad who have passed from this mortal life. Their legacy and posterity will continues to grow.

Her real passion in life was serving in her church callings. Before marriage, she served as a Stake Missionary in the East Riverside Stake. She later became Primary President, a role she adored for the purity and love of the children. She also taught in Primary, Relief Society, and Gospel Doctrine classes, always with devotion and joy.

From 1994 to 1996, Jack and Shirley served a mission together in the Alabama Birmingham Mission, assigned to Tuskegee. Their time there was filled with spiritual experiences and lifelong friendships.

Her loyalty and defense to the Gospel Principles was unique. Because she never learned to drive a car, weekly she would walk to church, even to her last week. She would rarely if ever miss a meeting. Often, she was the first member to church and her final years, she would head out to church, even when it was not Sunday, because attending church was one of the highlights of her week.

A special thank you to her daughter Teresa (Norman), who lived across the street and was her daily caregiver, and to her sister Reva Dailey, her final visitor. She loved her brothers, Terry and Tony, who had preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, please bring chocolate. Shirley insisted on sneaking as much chocolate into the spirit world as possible—she was certain Heavenly Father loves chocolate too. We’ve been instructed to stuff her pockets full of chocolate.

Jack and Shirley Robinson were soulmates, sharing over 51 beautiful years together. For the past two decades, Shirley longed to reunite with her eternal companion. Though our hearts ache with her passing, we rejoice in their heavenly reunion and know she will watch over us. God bless you Grams until you meet again.
