Gene Arthur McCarty, 87, of Rossville, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at Parkview Wabash Hospital in Wabash. He was born on September 27, 1937, in Cutler to Robert and Hilda (Wingard) McCarty. He married Donna J. Neuenschwander on June 22, 1958. She preceded him in passing on July 27, 2020.

Gene was a graduate of Cutler High School. He worked for Cutler Elevator and then Fairfield Manufacturing for 35 years. He was a member of East Side Assembly of God in Lafayette where he served as a lay leader. He was a 4-H Leader for 10 years and sang gospel music as part of the Gospel Tones.

Gene is survived by his sons, Steve McCarty and Gary (Vicki) McCarty; brothers, Charles McCarty, Jack (Phyllis) McCarty, Jerry (Cathie) McCarty; sisters, Ruthann Allen and Rose Newville; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Along with his wife of 62 years, Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Millie McCarty, and three brothers, Bobby Joe, Roger, and Bill.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 10am until the time of the service at 1pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel in Rossville. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left in Gene’s honor to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. Messages of condolence may be left www.dayandgenda.com.
