Jon McCarty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pierschbacher Funeral Homes - Chariton on Feb. 6, 2026.
Jon Roger McCarty, age 60, of Bussey, Iowa, passed away on February 3, 2026, at his home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. A celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date. Jon is now at peace and reunited with his boys. Memorials may be made in care of the family at 3320 Ashland Ave, Bussey, Iowa 50044, and will be designated at a later date.

Jon was born on April 20, 1965, in Centerville, Iowa, to Richard Max and Pamela McCarty (Briggs). As a teenager, he moved to the Bussey area and attended Twin Cedars High School.

Jon was known for his strong work ethic from a very young age, beginning his working career at just 14 years old at Paul's Grove Gas Station in Lovilia. He went on to work at a milk farm, then in an underground coal mine outside of Lovilia. Jon later worked at Vermeer in Pella for three years before beginning his lifelong career as a millwright with Local 2158, working for Weitz Industries.

In 1990, Jon married the love of his life, Jody (Bonnett) McCarty. Together they were blessed with two children, Jonathon and Jordan, who meant the world to him.

Outside of work, Jon enjoyed fishing and rock hunting and took great pride in his artifact collection. He also loved the open road and could often be found riding his Harley-Davidson.

Jon will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his love for his family, and the simple joys he found in life.

Jon will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Jody McCarty; grandchildren, Owen and Layla McCarty; Trish McCarty; his brother, Jason (Caila) Briggs; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Jonathon Hime and Jordan Eli McCarty; his father, Richard Max; his brother, Greg McCarty; his infant sister, Holly Briggs; and several aunts and uncles.
