Jan McCarty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown's Funeral Service - Durant on Feb. 6, 2026.
Durant, OK- Jan Eleen (Short) McCarty was born on Sunday, November 18, 1956 in Durant, Oklahoma to the late Virgil Henry Short and Lorene (McAlester) Short. Jan passed from this life on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas at the age of 69.

Jan was raised in Bryan County and attended schools in Caddo and Calera. After high school, she furthered her education at Murray State College in Tishomingo and earned a degree as a Registered Nurse. Jan had a passionate and caring heart for patients who were sick and in the ending stage of their life. The many families she ministered to during this time spoke immensely of her character and will never be forgotten.

Jan loved spending time and vacationing with her family. Her family can share many fond memories with much laughter and tears. Jan's joy was the grandkids and watching them compete in sporting events every chance she had. And lastly, Jan always had so much fun with the time she had with her sisters. Jan enjoyed reading and studying her Bible every chance she could and would do it often. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, David Short.

She leaves behind her two sons, Packy McCarty and his wife, Christine of Durant, and Stacy McCarty and his wife, Marissa of Moore; three sisters, Galeeta Lamar of Durant, Deborah Wright and her husband, Larry of Durant, and Annette Loyd of Durant; a "big brother", Kenny Short and his wife, Judy of Ada; grandkids Josh Grunstad, Navee Dever, Danial Grunstad, Patrick McCarty, Tori May, Cody McCarty, Kayden McCarty, and Graysen McCarty; great-grandkids Timberlynn McCarty, Malee Dever, Bo Dever, and Chloe Dever; and last but not least, her beloved dog Baby.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons Patrick McCarty, Cody McCarty, Jake May, Ty Dever, Josh Grunstad, and Danial Grunstad.
