Gene Maynard Schartz Sr., 86, of Neosho, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025. He was born on January 4, 1939, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to William Schartz and Emma (Bush) Schartz.
Gene married Patricia Phillips on June 23, 1960, in Ohio, and she survives. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Gene worked at Food Town in Pittsburg Kansas before taking a job as a meat cutter at Safeway in 1960. After the closure of Safeway, Gene took a job in the same capacity at IGA, Ramey's, and what would eventually become Price Cutter until his retirement in 2005.
Gene had a lifelong passion for woodworking and spent many years building toys, furniture, and cabinets. His work was a reflection of his care and skill, and his creations will be cherished by those who received them.
Gene is survived by his children: Gene Schartz Jr. (Sherrill) of Garfield, Arkansas; Whitney (Daryl) Hively of Goodman, Missouri; Benjamin Schartz of Neosho, Missouri; and Ganilla Blystone (Cory) of Kingston, Missouri. He is also survived by his siblings: Richard Schartz of Pittsburg, Kansas; Danny Schartz of Pittsburg, Kansas; and Melissa Lawrence of Scammon, Kansas. Gene was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his siblings Timmy Schartz, Mickey Schartz, Dennis Schartz, and Nancy Schartz.
A visitation will be held on January 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Neosho IOOF Cemetery following the service.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to those who have offered support during this difficult time and invites all to celebrate Gene's life and legacy.
