Richard Schartz Obituary
He was born on September 18, 1936, in Pittsburg, the son of William and Emma (Bush) Schartz. He graduated from Crawford County High School in Cherokee.
On May 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Alys Jo Allen in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2015.
Mr. Schartz worked as a butcher for Foodtown for twenty-seven years. He was the owner of The Browsery from 1969 until 1986, when he opened The Antique Shop on north Broadway. He loved dealing in antiques and was still involved, purchasing his last piece just two months ago.
Richard served in the United States National Guard for 18 years.
He had previously attended the Church of God of Holiness but most recently had attended Lighthouse Tabernacle.
Survivors include a son, Richard A. Schartz II (Diane) of North Carolina; a daughter, Kelly J. Hensley-Miller (Norm) of Pittsburg; a brother, Danny Schartz of Pittsburg; a sister, Melissa Lawrence of Scammon, KS; five grandchildren, Shannon Perry (Chris), Jimmy Hensley, Brandon Schartz (Kate), Meredith Walker (Mitch), and Miranda Schartz; six great-grandchildren, Jay Perry (MaKayla), John Perry, Nora Schartz, Margo Schartz, Luca Schartz, and Ada Schartz; and three great-great-grandchildren, James Perry, Grayson Perry, and Aspen Easterly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, Gene Schartz, Mickey Schartz, Timothy Schartz, and Dennis Schartz; and a sister, Nancy Schartz.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 10th, at Brenner Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. The family suggests memorials be given to Boy's Town. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St, Pittsburg, KS 66762. Online condolences may be left at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
