Gene Yackley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home on Oct. 1, 2025.
Gene Alan Yackley
Was born August 1, 1931 and grew up in Lisle, Illinois. He died March 29, 2025 at 93 years old in Plainfield under hospice care. Gene married the love of his life, Loretta Larson on August 16, 1952. Shortly after, he was drafted into the army and served two years in the Korean War. He returned home to his wife, Loretta and their one year-old son, Larry and started growing their family in Naperville. After a few years, they had a house built in Plainfield Illinois and moved there in late 1958 and remained there through the end of his life.
Gene was a devout Catholic at Saint Mary Immaculate Church in Plainfield. He loved his faith and family. He had a love for flying his Cessna airplanes as a private pilot. He also had a love for fishing and their cabin in Tomahawk Wisconsin on Lake Nokomis. He also enjoyed his time with his buddies at shooting clubs in the area. Gene was a very hard worker and could fix pretty much everything himself. He was proud of his home and yard. We will all miss seeing him out in the yard, cutting the grass and trimming those bushes to perfection every time.
Gene is survived by his wife, Loretta and his five children, Larry (Luann) Yackley, Suzanne Florek, Steve (Elaine) Yackley, John (Diane) Yackley and Bob (Kim) Yackley. Gene is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will miss him immensely.
Gene was proceeded in death by his parents, Howard Yackley and Alvina B. Yackley. He was also preceded in death by his brother Tom Yackley. Our family would like to give a special thank you to Marissa Campbell, hospice, nurse, and caregivers, Brianna Quintero, Sendy Jimenez and Flor Ugalde Ruiz. Your kindness and care for our dad was greatly appreciated.
We would also like to acknowledge dad's neighbor, Sue Sorg for bringing food and treats and also his mail each day to the house. A final thank you to all our friends, family, and neighbors for your caring thoughts and prayers. They did not go unnoticed, and we know that dad appreciated everyone as well.
Visitation will be at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., April 14th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Cremation Rites will be accorded. At a later date, there will be a private family ceremony which will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
