Genette Durling passed away at her home in Benzonia, MI, on March 10, 2025, just shy of her 75th birthday.
Born on March 29, 1950, in Detroit, MI, Genette was the daughter of Herman Fritz and Jacqueline (O'Conner) Fritz.
On May 21, 1982, she married Jay Durling, and together they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and devotion to family until his passing.
Genette was a long-time salon owner whose determination and work ethic earned the respect of many. After years of hard work, she retired with Jay to Benzonia, where she embraced the next chapter of life by pursuing her art and creativity. She was well known for her striking firefighter American flag mural a tribute that touched many. Her unmistakable style, often seen wearing her denim vest and little blue hat about town.
Genette's spunk, her quick wit, and her endless energy, were the start to many good stories. She lived life on her own terms never one to sit still for long, always ready with a funny joke, or a helping hand. She left a lasting impression on everyone, everywhere she went.
She is survived by her sons, Jason Durling (Kirsten) and Max Durling (Rachel); her grandchildren, Emma Durling and Jack Durling and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will never forget her fierce spirit and vibrant presence.
A viewing will be held at: Jowett Funeral Home,7223 South Street, Benzonia, MI 49616, on March 22, 2025, at 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m. All who knew and loved Genette are welcome to attend.
