Mrs. Geneva Thomas passed peacefully at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the age of 83.
Geneva Thomas is survived by her husband, James Thomas of West Haven, CT; six children, Annette Towns (Vincent), Russell Brantley both of Suffolk, VA, Catherine Brantley, Lisa Brantley-Gardner (Charles), Renee Ruffin, and Monique Ruffin all of New Haven, CT; sisters, Mattie Grant and Edna Rice of SC; and brothers, Freddie Brantley, Roger Brantley (Evonne), and Tyrone Adams of New Haven, CT; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mae Francis Brantley; father, L.C. Brantley, Sr. both of New Haven, CT; brothers, Gregory Brantley, James Brantley, and L.C. Brantley, Jr. all of New Haven, CT; and sister, Shirley Threatt-Higgins (Andrew).
Geneva Thomas was born on March 8, 1942, in Dumas, Arkansas to the late Mae Francis and L.C. Brantley, Sr. She moved to Connecticut in 1948 at the age of six. She graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1961. She worked for companies such as Pratt and Whitney and G & O Manufacturing, where she met James Thomas, who she later married on February 26, 1975. She then went on to pursue a CNA degree where she obtained a job at Marrakech Inc. She loved her job and worked for many years until she happily retired.
Geneva was an active church goer at Apply Faith, Faith Temple Revival Center, and Victory Christian Center II in Waterbury, CT where she became ordained as a mother of the Church. Geneva Thomas loved cooking, organizing family events and trips, spending time with family especially her grandchildren, doing word searches, watching cooking and western shows, and shopping. Geneva was a very classy and fashionable person who was a joy to be around. She was the matriarch of the family who loved God and her family.
A special thanks to the staff of Connecticut Hospice in Branford for allowing Geneva Thomas' last days to be comfortable and peaceful. Another special thanks to Renee Ruffin for taking extra great care of Geneva in her last days.
