Ms. Genina LaFlorence Rogers affectionately known as "Gigi" went home to be with the Lord September 7, 2025 at 4:29pm, surrounded by her family. She passed away at St. John hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In August of 1949, a beautiful baby girl was born to Thornton and Ernestine York in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of seven children added to this union.
She was reared in Pawhuska, where she attended Booker T. Washington grade school. Since Gigi was a little girl she wanted to become a school teacher. Gigi accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at an early age. Growing up in Pawhuska, she joined Bethsaida Baptist Church, where she sang in the Sunshine Band. She later joined the adult choir. Gigi was an awesome woman of God. She served the Lord all of her days.
In 1967, Gigi graduated from Pawhuska High School. She then went to Eastern State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma where she received her Associate's Degree in Speech Therapy. She continued her education at East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Speech Therapy.
After graduation Gigi began her career at Phillips 66 Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
She commuted from Pawhuska to Bartlesville for a year. After purchasing her first car, which was a 1969 black and gray sassy Camaro, Gigi made Bartlesville her home.
In 1977, Gigi married Willie Don Rogers in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. To this union, Quincy Ra'Don and Willie "Dee" Rogers, Jr. were born. Gigi and Willie Don briefly lived in Denver, Colorado. Later, they returned back to Bartlesville. She then began working at National Zinc. After being laid off, she worked for Jane Phillips hospital and retired from there.
Gigi loved to sing! Her upmost passion was singing and praising God. During her lifetime, she was a member of Love Connection Choir from Tulsa, Oklahoma for over ten years. She also sang with Sounds of Joy from Bartlesville for many years; as well as various choirs and workshop choirs. She was a true worshipper.
Gigi was a member of GFC Bartlesville, where she worked with the kitchen crew, was the President of the choir, and sang in the choir as well. Some of her ministries were teaching and writing plays for both the youth departments of Bethsaida Baptist Church and GFC, and also for the Women's ministry.
Watching OKC Thunder games, making movie theater baskets, crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles, making popcorn balls, and baking lemon cakes for the family holidays were some of the things she loved to do.
Her cabbage and black eyed peas were favorites for Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve celebrations. Her favorite color was green in which she looked so fabulous in. Some of her favorite tv shows were All My Children, Andy Griffith, Project Runway, Young And The Restless, and House of Payne.
Our beloved Gigi was such a beautiful person with a quiet inner strength, who would do anything for anyone. She gave some of the best advice and would always support her family. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her family. Her spirit will live on. We will miss her tremendously. She was a jewel.
Gigi leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life: Her sons, Quincy Rogers, Sr. of Moore, OK, and Willie Dee Rogers, Jr. of Bartlesville, OK; her grandchildren Noah Rogers of Brookhaven, Mississippi; Quincy Rogers, Jr. (Hannah) of Moore, OK, Jeremiah Rogers of Moore, OK; Drake and Aria Rogers of Bartlesville, OK; great grandson Quentin Blade Rogers of Brookhaven, Mississippi; her God daughter, JaRayh Florence of Oklahoma City, OK; her bonus son Jermaine Trent of Dallas, Tx; her three sisters: Marva Stith of Denver, CO; Thressa Rowland of Miami, OK; Nancy Rogers of Bartlesville, OK; three brothers: Thornton York, Jr. (Dora) of Bartlesville, OK; Reginald York, Sr.(Alfredia) of Denver, OK, and Sherman York (Susan) of McCloud, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by Willie Don Rogers, Sr.; her parents Thornton and Ernestine York; her grandparents, Annie and James Reid, her brother in law Raymond Stith, her aunts, her uncles, and her cousins.
Until we meet again…….

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 11:00AM, at First Wesleyan Church, 1776 Silver Lake Rd., Bartlesville, OK. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

A sweet, sweet, sassy soul. Always so warm and made you feel welcomed, with the focus on "How are YOU doing?", not her. Truly, truly missed.
