Geoffrey Ammon Velt

Geoffrey Ammon Velt, of Clifton, VA, passed away on May 19, 2025. He was 52 years young, with so many goofy dad jokes still to tell. In the face of a devastating diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome last summer, Geoff stayed focused on the positives-the heart of which were his wife Jill and their daughters Hannah and Olivia.
A loving and devoted husband and father, dedicated son, easy-going brother and friend, Geoff built a life he treasured around those he loved. He was a constant presence and proud supporter of everything his daughters enjoyed, most prominently soccer and cheer. Geoff was a softhearted companion to his dogs Gunston Happytail and Luna, who entertained him to no end. And throughout his life, the bond he had with his childhood friends, who lovingly called him "Zane," remained a source of comfort, joy, and evergreen stories of adventures shared.
Geoff was born, grew up, and raised his own family in Northern Virginia. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1990. He earned his B.A. in History from George Mason University in 1996. In 2001 he met the love of his life, Jill Berger, and they were married in 2005. They bought their first home in Springfield and later moved to Clifton to raise their young family, welcoming Hannah in 2009 and Olivia in 2012. Like his own father, Geoff cherished his role as a dad and family man.
Geoff is survived by his wife and children, his mother Sally, twin brother Greg and sister-in-law Tina, sister Tanya Gossett and nephews Aidan and AJ Gossett, mother-in-law Dale Berger, and sister and brother-in-law Shari and Bill Endo and nephew and niece Jason and Riley Endo. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Joseph Velt, and his grandparents, Ammon and Sara Mae Eckel.
In accordance with Geoff's wishes, he continues to do good and help others through organ donation.
