George A. Alexion, 98, formerly of Warwick, passed away August 14, 2022, at home in New Jersey. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Rougas) Alexion for sixty years until she passed in 2007.
Born in Providence a son of the late Alexander and Bertha (Skrivanos) Alexion, Mr. Alexion graduated from Central High School in Providence in 1942 and served as an officer and a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a businessman and entrepreneur in the restaurant, jewelry, and plastics industries. George was active in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation where he served as Vice President of the parish. After raising their children in Warwick, he and Mary retired to Florida and then to New Jersey.
He was the beloved father of Gary Alexion and his wife Maureen Healy of Brooklyn, NY, and the late Livia Jean. Loving Papou to Elizabeth and Matthew Alexion. Devoted companion of Elizabeth Heuser of Monroe Twp., New Jersey. Brother of the late Mildred Gadreault of Warwick, the late Chris Alexion of Lynn, MA, and the late James Alexion of Flagler Beach, FL. George will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston. (The funeral service will be live streamed, here. Military honors and entombment will follow at Swan Point Cemetery Mausoleum, Providence. CALLING HOURS Friday, 4 to 8 p.m., at "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Scholarship Fund.
