Mr. George Earl Baxter was born in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Robert Baxter and the late Ida Tobe Baxter. He entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at his home.

Mr. Baxter was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.

Mr. Baxter was predeceased by a son, Robert Sligh; brother, Freddie Lee Baxter; sisters, Rebecca Baxter, Elizabeth Baxter and Mildred Crooks.

Mr. Baxter is survived by his wife, Johnnie Mae Baxter; sons, George E. Baxter, Jr. (Angela) and Frederick Bush; sisters, Thomasina Eigner (Obie) and Carolyn Cooper; brother, Larry Baxter (Carolen) all of Newberry, SC; twelve grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Latissius Davis-Sligh; sisters-in-law, Victoria Chalmers, Mary White and Serephine Willingham; brother-in-law, Robert Crooks; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025 at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
