George W. Brummer, 87, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Island Grove, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.bauerfh.com.
George was born May 12, 1936 in Grove Township, the son of Ambrose and Laura (Kemme) Brummer. After serving an enlistment with the United States Army, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Ochs on September 9, 1961. George was a lifelong farmer and member of St. Isidore Parish, Effingham Knights of Columbus, and the Jasper County Farm Bureau.
George is survived by his wife, Betty of Effingham; daughter, Jennifer (husband, Bob) Hunzinger of Champaign; sons, Tony (wife, Shelley) Brummer of Joplin, MO and David (wife, Mary Fergus) Brummer of Chicago; grandchildren, Erica Hunzinger, Michael (Laura) Hunzinger, Christopher Hunzinger, Alexis Hunzinger, Jacob (Parker) Brummer, Caleb Brummer, Nathan Brummer, and Olivia Fergus-Brummer; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Olive, and Baker Brummer.
George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Charles Brummer, Mary Nacke, Sylvester "Bob" Brummer, and Lois Dhom.
