George Thomas Caffery
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Caffery, who left us peacefully on March 17, 2025. George was born on September 11, 1952, to his loving parents, Harriet and George Caffery.
A man of unwavering kindness, compassion, and strength, George touched the lives of many throughout his journey. He was well-known for his selflessness and dedication to helping others. He was a long-time employee of the Philadelphia School District, working in pest-control, demon-strating his deep commitment to his community. Outside of his professional work, George was an active and cherished member of the Philadelphia community. He had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, which he did with great joy as a proud member of the Broken Chains Motor-cycle Group, where he formed lifelong friendships and spread a message of unity and strength.
A firm believer in the power of recovery, George opened a recovery house, offering support and encouragement to others in need. His journey in helping others extended to his role as a sponsor, guiding countless individuals through their own recovery processes. His legacy of compassion and service was also seen in his dedication to building churches throughout Philadelphia, a testament to his faith and devotion to bettering his community.
In addition to his work in recovery and commu nity service, George proudly served as President of the Marianest Retreat and the Malverne Retreat George will always be remembered for his gen erous spirit, his commitment to making the world a better place, and his ability to inspire others to live with purpose and care. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to impact many lives for years to come.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Harriet and George Caffery. I met George at Devro Playground when I was 17 years old. He was in his early 20's then and I looked up to him like he was my Big Brother. George was fun, wise, and a little bit crazy (but in a good way). Over the next few years, George gave me advice about many things including relationships, avoiding drugs, and my future.

George gave me the confidence to fulfill my dreams. I was very happy to reconnect, over the past few years, with my former softball coach who proudly wore "Dad" on the back of his jersey. George was a great friend and mentor who I always thought of as family. He lived his life to help others. I feel very fortunate to be among those that George helped. I will miss my coach, my friend, and my Big Brother. May he Rest in Peace. God Bless the Soul of George "Dad" Caffery! Amen, Brother! Tom McKelvey
