BALLSTON LAKE - George P. Capsimalis, 90, of Wood Dale Drive, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt, to the late Panayotis and Anna Vassiliadis Capsimalis, George graduated from the American University in Cairo. He came to the United States to pursue his Ph.D. in Physics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, marking the beginning of a distinguished career.
George spent over 30 years as a research physicist at Benet Laboratories at the Watervliet Arsenal. He retired in 1997 as the Chief of Physical Sciences Research for the Large Caliber Weapons Command. A naturalized citizen, he took great pride in contributing to the defense of his country. His work included publishing articles in physics journals and presenting papers in the U.S. and abroad.
Beyond his professional achievements, George was a man of culture and warmth. He was an avid fan of classical music and a gourmet cook who loved preparing meals for his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Catherine Wells Capsimalis; his devoted sons, Milton Capsimalis (Arlene) of Oakland, Calif., and Christopher Capsimalis (Cecilia) of Houston, Texas; and his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Donovan, Daniel, and Ana Capsimalis. He was predeceased by his brother, Milton Capsimalis; and his sister, Ketty Malliotis.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. A funeral service will follow at noon, with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy.
