George "Red" Claypole, 82, of Polo, Mo., passed away July 28, 2024 at North Care Hospice House.
George was born October 29, 1941 in Hardin, Mo., to George and Opal Claypole. George graduated high school from Polo in 1959. On October 5, 1968, George married Judy S. Weis. They then bought the family farm, built his house himself, and this is where he would remain. On June 28, 1973 they welcomed their first child, Becky June (Claypole) Scaife. On June 7, 1976 they welcomed their son, Phillip Alvin Claypole. He joined the National Guard in 1963 and served 6 years. In 1968, George started his career with the United States Postal Service where he would retire from after 42 years.
George most enjoyed his time on his farm, building his legacy with his wife and children. Over the years, he did everything from raising hogs and cattle, bailing hay for himself and neighbors, and row cropping. He could fix anything and would get quite inventive at times. He enjoyed helping his children with their show hogs and cattle and attending show events. George's greatest joy began in 2003 when he became a grandfather.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Judy Claypole; children, Becky (James) Scaife of Kansas City, Kans., and Phillip (Sheena) Claypole of Polo, Mo.; grandchildren, Kara Claypole of Polo, Mo., Ty Claypole of Polo, Mo., Bobby Snapp of Polo, Mo., and Sienna James of Kansas City, Kans.; step-grandchildren, Gretchen and Ethan Kimmel of Odessa, Mo.; brother, Harry Claypole of Kansas City, Mo.; sister-in-laws, Margie of Liberty, Mo., Karen of Overland Park, Kans., Suzanne of Polo, Mo., and Karen of Kansas City, Mo.; and brother-in-law, Leonard Weis of Braymer, Mo.
George is preceded in death by his parents, George and Opal Claypole; brothers, Gerald, Wayne, Neil, Morris, and Kenneth; sisters, Helen, Dorothy, and Irma; brother-in-laws, Samuel, Lloyd, Ivan, Rodney, Virgil, Buck, and Bob; and sister-in-laws, Yvonne, Mary, Lettie, and Ruth Ann.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandpa and brother.
Memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024 at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home Lawson Chapel, 214 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Lawson, Mo.
