Scott Claypole Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs on Feb. 22, 2026.
Scott Neal Claypole, 62, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, was born on September 16, 1963, and passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Scott graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1981. Shortly after, he began building both his career and the life he would share with the love of his life.

He married Denise Michelle Claypole in 1983, and for 42 years they built a life rooted in loyalty, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Their marriage was a true example of standing side by side through every season of life.

Scott was a true example of what it meant to be a hard worker. He dedicated his life to providing for his family and took immense pride in building not only homes, but a future and foundation his family could stand on. Through his tireless work ethic, integrity, and determination, he built a forever legacy for those he loved.

A proud and dedicated home builder, Scott built many homes throughout Excelsior Springs and the surrounding areas, leaving a lasting mark on the community he loved. He was a respected member of the Home Builders Association and took great pride in his work. To Scott, building a house wasn't just construction - it was creating a place where families would grow, gather, and make memories. He believed in doing things the right way, putting in the effort, and standing by his word.

He could talk about work for hours, not simply because it was his profession, but because it reflected his values of responsibility, quality, and providing for those he loved.

Outside of work, Scott found peace in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a dedicated firearms collector who appreciated the craftsmanship and history behind his collection. He also had a passion for hot rods and specifically GTO's. He enjoyed collecting a variety of tools and hobby projects. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop with multiples of every type of tool or power tools.

Above all, he cherished his time with his grandchildren. Being "Papa" was one of his greatest joys. He loved sharing stories, teaching lessons, and creating memories that will live on through them.

Scott was known as a true stand-up man - steady, dependable, and always willing to help anyone in need. Whether lending a hand, offering advice, or simply showing up when it mattered most, he made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Denise Michelle Claypole; his children, Scotty Claypole (Caroline), Jeremy Claypole, Nick Claypole (Chelsye), Leslie Fairbrass (Justin Fairbrass), and Shane Claypole (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Lexi Conley (Jack), Dawson Claypole, Jack Claypole, Leighton Fairbrass, McKenna Claypole, and two bonus grandchildren, Kyra and Eli; he was proceeded in death by his father Neal Claypole.

He is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Claypole; a step mother, Karen Claypole, his sister, Janet Claypole; his brother, Chris Claypole; and his half-sister, Allison Ratliff.

Along with many nieces and nephews and family.

Though his passing was sudden, the life he lived was full - full of love, hard work, loyalty, and devotion. His legacy will live on in the homes he built, the values he instilled, and the family he loved so fiercely. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A visitation and service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 11am- 1pm at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs.
