George Francis Coogan, 79, passed away at his residence in Gastonia, North Carolina, on June 3, 2025 with his family by his side.

He was born in Albany, New York, on January 11, 1946 to the late George James Coogan and Elizabeth Delaney Coogan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Anita Register Coogan.

George earned a masters in mechanical engineering from Manhattan College and spent his career as a mechanical engineer. He was a big Notre Dame and Cincinnati fan. George loved his critters and trains but most of all he was a family man who loved his children and grandchildren. He leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Holly Coogan (Brittany) and Dana Stroupe (Justin); grandchildren, Ethan Hicks, Haley Martin, and Hunter Sexton; sister, Elizabeth Powhida of Albany New York; brother-in-law, Tommy Register; friend, Samantha Davis and family.

A Rite of Christian burial will take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday June 12, 2025 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Deacon Chip Wilson officiating.
