George Crone Obituary

George Edward Crone was born on March 14, 1943, in Houston, Texas, and he was adopted by his loving parents, Paul and Margaret Crone. George was welcomed into heaven on February 17, 2026.

George was raised in Fort Stockton, Texas, and he held a love for the state of Texas his whole life. He met his wife, Jackie Graves, in second grade, and they were married on August 21, 1964. Jackie and George raised three beloved daughters, Cara, Shannon, and Krista. In 1995, they moved to Southaven, Mississippi, where they have happily remained. George and Jackie have been blessed with an abundance of grandchildren, to whom they have been Nana and PawPaw since 1993.

George was known by all for his kind spirit, his quiet humor, and his strong dedication to the help and care for others. George was not a man who asked for attention or acclaim, but everyone who knew him could not help but notice the hard work he did every day, without complaint. He spent many years as a loyal employee of Fluid Power, and he began work at SBEC (now Northpoint Christian School) in the early 2000s before he retired from his position in 2021. As an employee, George was always willing to step in to fix a problem, no matter how small, and he was often known as a voice of reason in whatever situation he was placed in. He had a calm presence, and he never met a person who he wasn't willing to help. He was faithful in all ways: to his wife, to his family, to his Lord, to his church, and to his work.

George loved any kind of work he could do with his hands, whether this was fixing an air conditioning unit, working on a car engine, building a model airplane, or, as he would say, 'piddling around.' He had a deep appreciation for the smaller facets of life that many do not notice, and he had a wealth of knowledge about a wide array of subjects, whether it was Morse Code, car history, or radio calls. As a teacher, George was always calm and patient, and he had a very special way of correcting someone without ever being condescending or short.

George was a devoted member of Broadway Baptist Church, where he raised his daughters and many grandchildren. He served as a deacon for over 55 years and was dedicated to the service of others, whether this was through serving in the nursery and the deacon widow ministry or fixing different projects around the building. George had a love for the Lord that extended to everyone he met, and he studied the Bible faithfully, both at home and at church. His chief concern for his daughters and their children was a life lived righteously, and he modeled this lifestyle for all who knew him. While he will be greatly missed here on Earth, his family is assured in the truth that George is finally where he has always wanted to be, in the presence of his Savior.

George is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Crone, and his three daughters and their husbands: Cara and Tim Peña, Shannon and Lee Powell, and Krista and Michael Bowen, as well as his grandchildren: Wesley, Ryan, Ty (Gracie), Tate (Joey), Rowdy (Mackenzie), Hudson, Tal, Treader, Austen, Adie (Kobe), Asa, Blaze, Trace, Eli, Maggie, Aaron, and Georgie, as well as a future great-grandchild, expected in April.

The family would like to thank their Broadway church family for their support and love throughout the last years of George's life. While George may have struggled, the love and generosity of the church body was always present, modeling the love of Christ. In addition, the family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice for helping ensure that George's last days were spent as comfortably and peacefully as possible, with a special thanks to Jo, Jessica, Jamie, Kyla, Lakita, Mary, and Dave.

Visitation is Friday, February 20, at 11:00 AM followed by service at 12:00 noon at Broadway Baptist Church.
7400 Getwell Rd. 38672, Southaven, Mississippi.

Special thanks to Jackie for getting Cindy and me settled into Broadway two years ago. Special thanks to George for always extending his hand in friendship and always having something humorous to discuss when we´d meet up at church.
Already missed and never forgotten.

George was always someone looked up to in our time at Broadway. Jimmy has fond memories of his and George´s mission trip to Brazil and considered him a friend. We know he is rejoicing with Jesus and we are praying for comfort for Jackie and family.
